Critical to justice in America, is adequate Health Care for it's people. The United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, are concerned for the women, children and youth who do not have adequate or any health care coverage. President Obama is trying to get the ball rolling towards a more equitable Health Care System in the United States. Dialogue is essential to understanding all that is before us on this issue....What are your concerns??? How do you feel about the Health of our Nation?

  1. There is a huge crisis in the area of mental health, especially mental health clients that are also parents. So many great programs have had budget cuts, so many programs that helped so many people just dont exist any more. So where do you go if you are dealing with mental health issues and dont have help? Often to emergency rooms for temporary fixes and then put back out where you came from or even into prison for lack of guidance and medications. Thankfully I myself know I can turn to a church when I need help or just someone to talk to. Not everyone knows that church is a great place for emotional support and healing. Although God is so great, so wonderful and awesome, its nice to talk to a human who has skin and bones and can give you a hug or have a cup of coffee with you. Any time you as a church member have reached out to someone just to say 'hello', I know by personal experience that it can mean so very much when your hello is sincere and that when you say that you really are reaching out and not just making an empty gesture to look good. I feel so hopeful to think someone cares, and so sad when once in a while I find out they didnt really care at all. Each one of you out there can make such a difference in someones life, especially now when times are hard and its easy to be discouraged. Who knows, that gesture, that smile or phone call to someone could come at a time when they really, really need it. This need grows exponentially when that person is a parent or grandparent and there is the health and wellbeing of children involved. As a person who has dealt with mental health issues for over twenty years, I have had two of my siblings die suddenly and unexpectedly within months of each other at the same time that my mental health worker left to move to another state and I was essentially left in the worst time of my life with no support system. I had people from my church bring us meals and offer to help me with my children and housework during these times. How wonderful that was! Please, reach out to other people in love. You may not even know what they're dealing with in their life emotionally but I guarantee it is always wonderful to have something that helps someone's day get better in some way. No matter what someone might be dealing with in their life its always good not to feel all alone or that no one cares. Or if you know someone has been sick or one of their family members has been sick, you can fill in the gaps that health care cant fill by helping them out at home with whatever you can do,like bringing meals or cleaning or child care. You can make a difference.
